Wild Earth

Wild Earth founder Quintin Quider is an expatriate Californian who has spent many...

years living on the South Island. He has gathered a small, dedicated team to produce his Wild Earth range in Central Otago. Established in 1998, Wild Earth Wines owns 35 hectares of vineyards in two of the region's finest locations - at the end of Felton Road overlooking the Kawarau River and in the North Lowburn district beneath the imposing Pisa Range.

Most of the grapes for this wine came from the Terraces Vineyards in Felton Road (Bannockburn) and the rest from Wild Earth's Lowburn Vineyard. The Bannockburn vineyard is composed of predominantly Dijon clone vines and Lowburn is planted mainly with clones five and six.

Vintage Information

The 2014/15 growing season was cooler, with frosts challenging growers in both spring and late autumn. Summer was relatively dry, with good periods of warm days and cool nights. Pinot Noirs from this vintage are elegant and pure, characterised by exceptional fragrance.


The grapes were hand harvested at optimal ripeness from early to mid-April. Six separate fermentations went into the blend, ranging from 1 – 30% whole bunches, which spent between 3 – 4 weeks on skins. The wine was aged in French oak barriques, of which 25% was new oak, 40% was 1 year old oak and the remaining was 2 – 5 fill barriques for approximately 12 months.

Tasting Notes

This wine is bright garnet in colour with aromas of plum and sweet cherry together with mushroom, wild flowers and thyme. Flavours of red berry shine though while the silky, fine-grained tannins and well-integrated acidity give character and structure to the wine.
