Beneventano Aglianico

The name Vesevo is the historic name for Vesuvius. The vineyards are...

located in the Irpinian hills of Campania, potentially one of Italy's most exciting wine producing areas. Despite being so far south, there are large differences here between day and night temperatures, making this one of the latest regions in Italy to harvest.

The Vesevo vineyards are situated between 450 and 550 metres above sea level, and are always subject to the cool breeze blowing off the Bay of Naples. Over the centuries, this breeze has blown volcanic ash from Vesuvius inland to give the soil here a volcanic character.

Vintage Information

2015 was a hot and dry, resulting in excellent grape ripening. Grapes were healthy and fully ripe with pronounced varietal characteristics.

After destemming and crushing, maceration took place for 10-15 days at a temperature of up to 26°C. Fermentation followed and then 10% of the wine was aged in American oak barriques and the rest in temperature controlled stainless steel for eight months.

Tasting Notes

The nose is complex and intense with a bouquet of red cherries, raspberries and cranberries, which continue through onto the palate. The wine has firm yet smooth tannins with a lingering spicy finish and hints of vanilla.
