Maison Les Alexandrins brings together the scions of two of the great families...
of the Rhône, Nicolas Jaboulet, formerly of the eponymous winery in Tain, and the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel. This joint venture micro-négociant was created in 2009 with the sole aim of producing top quality Northern Rhône wines. Nicolas is able to source the best fruit and wines from growers and producers that he has formed a long standing relationship with, while the Perrin family bring expertise in winemaking and blending, as well as the use of their cellars.
The grapes sourced for this wine are grown at relatively high altitude in the mountainous part of the Ardèche area.
2016 has been hailed as a great vintage but it wasn’t without its challenges. The growing season did not get off to a great start. Spring was marked by cloudy and wet weather. Hail storms also posed a threat with some loss of yield yet luckily it was early enough in the season for vines to recover vegetative growth. As a result of this weather, flowering and budburst were delayed. The summer months were very hot and without rain which halted some ripening but sorely needed rain fell at the beginning of September allowing ripening to continue. Fortunately, good weather then resumed until harvest, which resulted in fruit of good quality and moderate alcohol levels.
Fermentation and ageing took place in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures. Nicolas and Marc's aim was to preserve the freshness and aromatics of the wine. The Viognier was bottled during early Spring 2017.
Pale gold in colour with bright undertones. Aromatic, this Viognier has notes of citrus fruit and white flowers. The wine is crisp and mineral with good tension on the palate and a lovely finish.
