Grenache Rose IGP Pays d`Oc

Eastern Languedoc

Monrouby

Monrouby is a small village in the Languedoc, close to Pomerols, which is...

where the Baron de Badassière and the Vignes de l'Eglise wines are made. Winemaker Graeme Paul was impressed with the fruit from this village in 2011, so decided from then on to vinify several varieties separately.

Vineyards

The vineyards are located on low lying hills with the Bassin de Thau, a string of lakes which moderate the climate. There is little rain in the summer and the gentle breezes from the lakes and Mediterranean lower evaporation and reduce vine stress.

Vintage Information

The 2017 growing season started with a cold and rainy winter. In spring, two successive cold periods caused a hard frost which destroyed the vegetative shoots in the vineyard. May and June were exceptionally warm and dry, and led to a rapid growth of vegetation. There were episodes of high temperatures in the summer but due to the good reserves created by the heavy rains in winter and spring, the vines were not water stressed. Harvest took place from 17th August to 16th September, historically the earliest harvest and with the lowest yields. The 2017 vintage looks very promising in terms of quality.

Vinification

The fruit was harvested in the early hours of the morning and gently pressed in a pneumatic press under CO2 in order to retain the fresh, primary fruit flavours. The wine was fermented slowly in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 15° C. After fermentation, the wine was racked off its lees and tartrate stability occurred naturally over the winter. No oak was used.

Tasting Notes

Pale salmon in colour, this refreshing Provençal style rosé is brimming with fragrant red berry fruit with a hint of dried herbs. The palate is fresh with crisp acidity and a smooth finish. Perfect as an aperitif, or with light Mediterranean style dishes or small plates.
