Chianti area, with a large portion of the blend coming from the hills around Florence. Alberto selects and then blends the wine before bottling it in Cerreto Guidi. Made primarily from Sangiovese, this wine displays all the freshness, vibrancy and red fruit characters typical of Chianti. It is an excellent value for money introduction to this historical Tuscan denomination.

Vineyards

The grapes for this wine come from vineyards in Cerreto Guidi at an altitude of 200 metres above sea level, in the western part of Chianti. The grapes are grown on calcareous soils and are trained to the Guyot system.

Vintage Information

2016 saw a very mild winter but rainfall until the beginning of June allowed for important underground water reserves to be replenished. Perfect temperatures prompted the growth of plentiful and healthy fruit which flourished in the following dry, sunny and hot days alternating with cool nights. The large diurnal temperature variation will lend the 2016 vintage a more defined aromatic note than in previous years. Heavy rainfall finally arrived on 15th September – 80ml of rain over 3 days.

Vinification

The grapes were destemmed and gently crushed before being fermented in concrete tanks for two weeks using only native yeast. After fermentation and pressing, some of the wine was aged in large oak casks, while the rest was aged in concrete tanks.

Tasting Notes

Bright cherry fruit aromas combine with hints of chocolate and balsamic vinegar. On the palate, the fruit is supported by fine-grain tannins. The finish is savoury with a hint of minerality.
