Vineyards

The vineyards are situated around the towns of Ortona, San Salvo and Pollutri on the Adriatic coast of the Abruzzo region. Facing south east, vines are planted on a mix of clay and limestone soils and are trained on both guyot and pergola systems.

Vintage Information

2016 was a challenging vintage in Abruzzo. The severe frost in April damaged some of the vineyards. Even the summer days were interrupted by periods of grey skies and misty rains, which persisted into harvest. Yields were generally lower, and wines showed slightly less body and lower alcohol.

Vinification

Once the grapes were received at the winery, they were gently crushed and destemmed. The grapes then underwent a cold maceration for 4 days. Fermentation took place in stainless steel at a temperature of 24-26°C for 8-10 days. This wine received no oak ageing to preserve the vibrancy of the fruit.

Tasting Notes

This wine shows an intense, fruity bouquet with floral hints and some richer spicy notes. The palate is full yet well balanced with lovely ripe dark red fruits and soft tannins.
