The 16th century Château de Beaucastel was acquired by the Perrin family in...
the early 1900s. With a global following for their benchmark Châteauneuf du Pape, the wines at this historic property are consistently among the finest in the region.
Château de Beaucastel own 110 hectares, with one single plot in the north of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, where they grow all 13 grape varieties authorised. The Roussanne Vielle Vignes is from a small parcel of only three hectares. The vines are between 85 and 100 years old, giving wonderfully concentration and intensity to the finished wine.
The 2017 vintage began with a mild winter, followed by lower temperatures in May with some heavy rain during the flowering period, which led to a reduction in yields. By mid-June, the weather improved, becoming warm and dry, ideal growing conditions for the grapes.
The grapes were hand harvested into small crates. At the winery, the grapes were then pressed using a pneumatic press with the juices left to settle. Fermentation took place 30% in oak barrels and 70% in stainless steel tanks. The wine was aged for eight months before blending and bottling.
This wine is golden in colour with aromas of caramelised apples, fresh pears and waxy lemon peel. On the palate, it is rich and fresh with hints of spice. An elegant wine that has great depth and a long, lingering finish.
