Veneto
The Veneto region is home to two of Italy's best known wines, Valpolicella and Soave. Situated in northeastern Italy, with the Germanic Trentino-Alto Adige to the north and the Slavic Friuli-Venezia-Giulia to the east, it has Verona and Lake Garda on its western border and Venice to the east. The Veneto is the leading Italian region in terms of DOC production and makes a vast array of wines from its plains and hills, both steep and gentle. In the hills north of Treviso, around the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, the Prosecco grape comes into its own, producing 'frizzante' and fully fledged sparkling wines.
